Patrick Javillier
Sadly there is no Premier Cru here (apart from one measly barrel of Charmes) but what Patrick can achieve with Villages wines puts everyone else to shame. He obtains a miraculous purity and thus typicality in his wines, where the individual terroir comes through, and expresses itself so very well.
The wines here are not ridiculously opulent and fat like many Meursaults, in most cases so much so that they almost taste like something from the Hunter Valley. No -here they are elegant, fine, pure, and well balanced. These are wines for drinking – not for looking at and admiring. These are not ‘show wines’, these are for the person who appreciates harmonious, rather than wham-bam wines.
We note from Decanter that Javillier is Clive Coates’ favourite grower in Burgundy.
