Pierre Amiot
This estate is now completely run by Pierre’s two sons – Didier) and
Jean-Louis . The first visit I made to this domaine, reputed to be a good
source of Morey St Denis wines. I had heard on the grapevine that there had
been significant progress and I was eager to see what the fuss was about.
And what a surprise! The tip-off was well founded, as the wines were not
only of exemplary quality, but I also tasted one of the greatest wines I
have ever had the pleasure of tasting. There are no hard and fast rules to
the vinification here, the intransigence often encountered with the older
wine makers in Burgundy and elsewhere being replaced by a refreshing
adaptability to the problems encountered with each vintage. Jean-Louis looks
after the vines ensuring top quality fruit for his brother Didier to vinify.
.
The wines very much show the influence of the lieux-dits. Difference in
styles and influences. Concentrated. The 99 vintage needed no filtration as
quality of fruit very good. It is such a well-balanced vintage – to keep or
drink as the balance is perfect – in harmony even from this stage, so will
give pleasure at all stages of their development.
