Vincent Rapet
This is another historic domaine that has bumbled along quite happily over
the years, but now that Vincent is firmly in control there has been a
dramatic improvement in the wines here. Make no mistake, this appellation of
Pernand Vergelesses can make some really good wines in the right hands. The
value for money is probably the best in the whole of Burgundy. Pernand has
always suffered from the fact that no one can pronounce it and the
wines have always been too dusty, too dull in the fruit department. Well,
this has all changed, partly with cold pre-fermentation, and other
wine-making techniques, new equipment, pneumatic presses etc, as well as new
grape clones. OK the whites are not as complex as Corton Charlemagne –
but they are not far off, and a third of the price. Anyone who ignores these
wines any longer is making a grave mistake. This domaine and area should be
overlooked no longer. |
