Auxey-Duresses
Auxey lies between the Montagne de Bourdon and the Mont Mellian in the
centre of the Côte-de-Beaune. The village itself has a 15th Century church
and remnants of more than one Chateau. Its premier crus are found on the
south-east facing slopes under the Montagne de Bourdon which suits the Pinot
Noir particularly well.
The north-west orientation of the slopes on the Meursault side are better
suited to Chardonnay but only village wines are produced here. Both grapes
are found on the third section of the Auxey-Duresses vignoble, a south-east
facing slope on the way to Saint Romain, these again are village wines.
Auxey-Duresses has a good reputation for white wines and they tend to be
relatively inexpensive.
