Gevrey Chambertin
Arguably the most significant village in the region, Gevrey Chambertin marks
the start of a line of communes producing truly fine Burgundy. Gevrey
Chambertin itself produces over two thirds of the Côte-de-Nuits grand crus.
These Gevrey Chambertin grand crus are extremely varied, the wines of the
Chambertin and Clos-de-Bèze vineyards are rich and full bodied while those
of Charmes and Mazoyères are extremely delicate. The village is home to
nearly 80 families making it their business to produce very good Burgundy
and visitors know the wine they’ll find here will be excellent. They will
also find the ruins of a 13th century château at the north end of the
village and the notable Cellier de Dîmes, originally the chapter house and
store room which has now been restored, its wine cellars are today used by a
local producer.
