Meursault
Historically Meursault has produced only white wines, it would seem that the soil - which is high in limestone- the aspect, or both have never been suited to the red grape so there is no point trying. Today a vast number of individual growers produce excellent white Burgundy in Meursault.

The village is large by Côte-de-Beaune standards. It plays host to the third of the Trois Glorieuses feasts on the Monday after the Hospices de Beaune auction; this is always a merry affair of locals, visitors and growers.

In the town medieval alleyways weave indiscriminately around impressive historical buildings including the 17th Century Château de Meursault and a 15th century church with a spire rising 57 metres. In the central square visitors will find the vestiges of a medieval fortress.
