Nuits-Saint-Georges
Nuits-Saint-George is a large and well-known commune on the edge of the Côte-de-Nuits. The industrial and commercial centre of this Pinot Noir Empire, Nuits-Saint-George is located between Beaune and Dijon. The commune is split north/south by the top of the Meuzin valley its western vineyards tend to produce the village wines and the eastern, the premier cru. Below the Meuzin stream the vines stretch into Premeaux but these wines may still carry the Nuits-Saint-George appellation. The village has Hospices, with a charitable foundation and 10 hectares of vines. On the Sunday before Palm Sunday the wines produced by the Hospices de Nuits are sold at auction.
