Saint-Romain
The village of Saint-Romain is made up of Romain-le-Haut on the higher
levels where the original outer walls of a fortified castle would have once
been found and the main part of the village located lower down and encircled
by cliffs.
Saint-Romain produces only village wines and has had full Appellation
Contrôlée status since 1947. The soil is better suited to white wine and as
a result the village is more respected for its Chardonnay than its Pinot
Noir. The wines are inexpensive and particularly good in a warm vintage.
